Welcome to the Health Sciences Division
Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC)
The Health Sciences Division Nursing Education Department, formerly the JNF Hospital School of Nursing, was established in January 1968. In keeping with global trends of transition of nursing schools from hospital-based to tertiary level educational institutions, the School of Nursing became one of five Divisions of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) in January 1999.
Since then, the Division has led the way in Nursing Education in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. It has evolved over the years and presently offers a comprehensive range of programmes that satisfy the needs of persons who are desirous of becoming nurses and midwives; nurses and midwives who are prepared to meet the needs of consumers, amidst the ever changing social, political, technological and environmental dynamics.
Our programmes of study for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree and the Nursing Assistant and Post Basic Midwifery Certificate, provide the basis for career specialization, educational advancement, and personal and professional development.
We are driven by our mission as we prepare our graduates to be critical and analytical thinkers, competent and confident practitioners and progressive and decisive leaders who are able to meet the health-care needs of the international populace within multi-dimensional health-care settings.
Being cognizant of the ever evolving nature of health-care delivery systems and service-users’ needs and expectations, we are committed to continuously improve and or/expand programme offerings and procure adequate and requisite resources that are in compliance with regional and international standard requirements. This is why the Division, in January 2014, in fulfillment of the mandate of the Regional Nursing Body (RNB) upgraded its Associate’s Nursing Degree to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, the entry requirement to practice professional nursing. The Department also secured a state-of-the-art clinical simulation laboratory that provides a safe, risk-free environment for students to develop and build their competence and confidence in clinical nursing practice.
A high value is placed on inter-professional education in order to foster and create an empowering and supportive learning environment for our students. This is evidenced by inter-faculty teaching across programmes and Divisions, clinical experience opportunities organized in a multiplicity of primary, secondary and tertiary health-care environments, and the annual multi-disciplinary research seminar for students and faculty of the CFBC.
As you embark on your quest to become a part of the cadre of nursing professionals around the world, I invite you to make the Health Sciences Division at the CFBC your choice of educational institution and to learn from our committed, enthusiastic and experienced nursing educators.
