Navigating the “new normal” can be challenging for students during this time. In order to ensure that the students of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) have all the tools needed to be their best, Mrs. Sonita Daniel, Director of Library Services, has ensured that the resources typically available at the College’s physical library, are also available to students in the comfort of their homes. “All students have access to our online library on the EBSCOhost platform”, Mrs. Daniel explained, “to supplement this database, we have also provided additional resources by expanding our resources list.
We’ve added the Business Source and the eBook Caribbean Collection. Students can access these high- quality research databases at http://search.ebscohost.com.” To make the program more user-friendly and to support the effective utilization of the resources, tutorials on navigating the EBSCOhost platform were sent to the student body. When asked if the
resources were being accessed by the students, Mrs. Daniel responded that “based on the usage statistics recorded, it shows that the students have been using the resources” as there were 1178 database sessions and 3137 searches recorded on the EBSCOhost platform.
However, the resources provided go far beyond the online library. Mrs. Daniel and her team digitized the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) past papers for the past five years and have shared the link to the google drive with all students and faculty members. In addition, they have also received a package Mrs. Daniel refers to as “Resources for Success” that includes tips on study skills, effective reading strategies, time management and exam preparation.
All of the above-mentioned resources were disseminated to the entire CFBC student body to ensure equal access for all students. Even during the physical closure, we aim to provide as much support as possible. Students can feel free to reach out to the library team via email at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
