ARTS, SCIENCES & GENERAL STUDIES
The ASGS Division prepares students for the CXC Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE). CAPE is the equivalent of the Cambridge Advanced Level Examinations and is recognized as such nationally, regionally and internationally.
Note Well: All students are advised to take at least TWO 2-Unit courses as this is the minimum university entry requirement.
Each Unit consists of three modules and requires approximately 150 hours of work. This includes contact time and time spent on projects and other assignments.
Internal and external assessments are required for each Unit and students CANNOT achieve a passing grade without satisfying both the internal and external requirements for the unit of study.
These assessments effectively span the three modules. Eight Units, selected in accordance with specifications, must be completed for the award of each Associate Degree. However, candidates may opt to take additional Units if they so desire. Each Unit can be certified separately. Each programme usually lasts two years. However, students can accumulate units over a five- year period to satisfy the CXC Associate Degree requirements.
Courses that make up the CXC Associate Degree are separated into three bands: General Education
Courses (COMPULSORY), Core Courses and electives.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The basic entry requirements are stated below. In addition, please pay attention to the prerequisites needed to pursue specific fields of study.
Applicants to the ASGS Division must have the following:
a) Five CXC/CSEC subjects at the general or technical proficiency , grades I, II or III, including English A.
b) GCE ordinary level subjects, grades A, B or C. These may be combined with CXC/CSEC general or technical proficiency subjects.

d) No basic proficiency subject will be accepted.
Persons who meet the above requirements and wish to enter the ASGS Division must bring the following documents with them when registering:

b) original examination certificate(s) or results slip(s) and photocopies.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for graduation, students are required to pass (a minimum of 50%) all three modules of all courses taken. A module grade of F will mean that the student will have to retake that module. In other words, students are required to pass all internal coursework in order to qualify for graduation.
