Student Services is the department at CFBC that offers services and support for students, with a goal to enhance student growth and development. We aim to foster the development of the whole student and to promote student success by providing support services based on the needs of the student population in an engaging, inclusive and community oriented environment. To date, our offerings include Professional Development Sessions, Counselling, Academic Advising, Athletics, International Student Services and Events. With some 12+ clubs and organizations, our campus life continues to energize our students and contributes greatly to meeting our overall Student Services goals.
Extra-curricular Activities
The College encourages students to become involved in organizations which cater to their spiritual, intellectual, social, recreational and cultural needs. All registered student organizations are supervised by the Director of Student Services and supported by other staff.
College teams compete in a number of sports including volleyball, netball, football, track & field and cricket. For the purpose of in-college competition, all students are assigned to one of four (4) Courts: Bullfinch, Carib, Hawk and Falcon.
Counselling
All students have the opportunity to access and utilize the counselling services of the College as needed. These services are geared towards enhancing self-knowledge, self-responsibility, and personal and career development. Students are helped in managing socioemotional difficulties that may impede their academic progress, improving interpersonal relations, and acquiring the necessary skills to maximize their potential as students and as individuals.
The Counselling Centre is situated in the administrative office of the Horsford Road campus. Appointments may be secured through direct contact with the Counsellor as well as through the assistance of Faculty or Administration. The Counsellor is also available during registration to offer general guidance to students and to support the efforts of academic advisors.
Academic Advisement
The Academic Advisement Programme is facilitated by the Student Advisement Committee of the College under a policy which allows for each student upon matriculation and prior to registration to be assigned an academic advisor. This service is offered to all incoming students and is available throughout their college tenure.
New students are advised as part of the orientation and registration process to ensure that each course or programme of study being considered for selection is in keeping with their career interests and aspirations as well as their personal aptitudes and qualifications, and that entrance requirements are met or that plans to meet them are formulated and activated. Students are expected to cooperate with the delivery of initial and continuous academic advising by their faculty advisors, whereby quality and purposeful advisee-advisor relationships may be established and maintained in an effort to optimize performance, retention and successful completion of studies.
