Welcome to the Division of Health Sciences!
I am very pleased that you have chosen our programs to accomplish your aspirations in the field of health care. Whether you area new or returning student, you are an important part of our what we do. I believe there is no greater place to begin or continue your educational journey than in the Health Science Division.
We take great pride in the rigor of our curriculum and our students’ thirst for success. Setting the bar high in our program admissions requirements helps maintain those standards. We currently offer the University of the West Indies/Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College franchised Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree which is a well sought-after degree because of the scientific knowledge explosions in the field of health and current research that demonstrates that BSN nurses improve patient outcomes.
We also offer the Post Basic Midwifery certificate, Nursing Assistant programmes and short courses. These along with future programs would allow for a broader and more in-depth education that enhances the students’ professional development and allows the graduate to better understand the many social, cultural, economic and political issues that impact patients and influence health care. The nursing programs offer students excellent clinical sites for practice in hospitals, long-term care, and community facilities.
The Health Science Division has a tradition of academic excellence through a student-centered approach to nursing education. We place emphasis on research and scholarship in the development of nursing knowledge and the application of that knowledge to ensure evidence-based health care outcomes. Our nursing faculty has extensive experience in teaching and they are well-versed in active teaching/learning strategies including cutting edge technology and current nursing practice experiences to prepare students to promote the health of the population in the 21st century.
As students progress through the programs, the commitment and dedication to personal and academic excellence will be tested. We in turn as educators and advisors will continue to strive to work with students daily to instill the values of excellence, leadership and compassion.
The clinical simulation laboratory provides a state-of-the-art learning environment designed to provide students with an atmosphere where they can incorporate theory and psychomotor skills consistent with curriculum requirements. Our clinical partners are invaluable to the programs in the provision of excellent clinical rotations.
I am very proud of our graduates who become expert clinicians and health care leaders. Our graduates play pivotal roles in advancing the nursing profession and health care, not only in St. Kitts and Nevis, but regionally and globally.
My vision is that the Health Science Division is recognized regionally and internationally for excellence in nursing and allied health care programmes that are responsive to global health challenges and for generating high quality interdisciplinary research. This vision can only be achieved in a supportive environment including the commitment of all students.
I am confident that your time here in the Health Science Division and by extension the CFBC will be exciting, intellectually stimulating and fulfilling.
