CFBC TO HOST “CAREERS IN MATHEMATICS” PANEL DISCUSSION ON THURSDAY, 3rd APRIL 2025
Basseterre, St. Kitts: The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) is set to host a panel discussion on “Careers in Mathematics” on Thursday, 3rd April 2025, in the Poinciana Conference Room at the college’s main campus on Burdon Street, Basseterre.
The expert panel will feature four distinguished professionals from mathematics-related fields: Mrs. Gaile Grey-Phillip, Statistician and Head of the UWI Global Campus; Mr. Kesna Fairclough, Materials Science Researcher at Cambridge University; Mrs. Kayla Farrel-Mills, Statistician at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB); and Mr. Xavier-Jon Bass, Associate Actuary at KR Consulting.
The objectives of this panel discussion are multifold. Key goals include exposing students to diverse career paths by showcasing the wide range of opportunities in mathematics, from academia and research to industry roles in finance, technology, data science, and statistics. Additionally, the panel aims to provide real-world insights through firsthand accounts and experiences from professionals, helping students grasp the practical applications of their studies and what to anticipate in their careers.
The “Careers in Mathematics” panel discussion comes on the heels of the inaugural CFBC International Day of Mathematics (IDM) panel discussion, held on March 14, 2025, in celebration of the global observance day. The theme for the IDM event was “Mathematics, Art, and Creativity.”
